With the advent of newer and more immersive techniques in digital photography, the profession of photography became tighter and more restricting. Yet, with the right choices, anyone graduating from art school can become a good digital photographer. The job itself is one of the most arduous and testing as all jobs are, but is also instantly satisfying for it is the passion that is being translated into money here. Digital Photography being transformed into a profession though requires some years of training a many years of gathering experience. The best in the business tend to keep learning, studying and looking up new and constantly updating information to stay atop competition and know exactly what they clientele wants from them.

Studying is the first step in the training to be a professional digital photographer. In photography school everything is taught – from basic film photography’s static composition, intuitive lighting changes, flash use, background lighting, ISO films etc. to digital photography’s white balance, on the fly tinting and colour accenting to development of pictures and post production. These form the core literature of the photographer and is used extensively in their years as photographers. The business of selling photographs also is taught in these photography and art schools and thus also form a basis of the financial aspect of digital photography training.

The talent of photography lies not in knowing the technical aspects, though and these only form a decent paragraph on the résumé. The real aspect is the “art” factor. Talent for the beauty lying in a picture is inborn and cannot be taught and can at best be inspired in these photography schools. Thus, the creativity must flow from within and be expressed outside in the form of galleries of photographs that can be the seeds of future clientele. Online galleries are a very easy to use and successful way of showing off one’s talent to the world. Major photographers still use sites such as Flickr, and PicasaWeb to show off their talents. Budding photographers can use these sites to be their knowledge base and a way to learn from the masters of photography.

Lastly, one must be willing to work for little or no money in the initial days. Photography is still an art, and hence being a willing slave to professional photographers is the only way to get started in the business. Yet the fruits of labour are ever present and with enough hard work one can become a photographer of great repute.
